Striking Stripes

It has been a long time since my last fashion post.

I turned 24 and decided to cut more of my hair off! I love the freedom and it makes my active/busy lifestyle much more manageable!

Retuning to L.A. has been the best thing that could ever happen! Life is finally back to “normal.” Motivation, education, yoga and fashion are all in a day of my life.

My friend was getting rid of this adorable dress and shoes. She loves this outfit so much that she told me she might want it back!!!! I told her that was fine and all she needs to do is ask!

The beauty of sharing clothing with friends is: Even though we might be tired of an outfit, a friend might find a "gem!"

I would list the dress brand, but the tag is missing.

The purse is Kate Spade and the sunglasses are Oakley. The shoes are vintage, but I absolutely LOVE the ankle straps. When done right ankle straps are VERY slimming.

My neighbor’s cat loves to visit and decided to join in and make my "Striking Stripes" Picture Purrrrrrrfect!

The Nanny Gourmet: Eat me for Dinner & Take Me for Lunch Tacos

A Personal Assistant, Masters Student and eventually a yoga teacher has its perks!

Making Dinner for my Boss and teaching her daughter how to cook was extremely FUN! I love sharing my love for cooking with the younger generation!

There is nothing like discussing the many uses of avocado, how cool Seventeen Magazine is and how one day the VERY cool 13 year old I taught to make Tacos will one day attend UCLA and make dinner for her mom (thanks to learning some of my cooking skills!)!

Ingredients:
Ground Turkey (some supermarkets have pre-taco- seasoned meat)
One Onion
One Garlic
Can of diced spice tomatoes
Taco Seasoning
Himalayan Salt
Pepper
Lettuce
Tomato
Cheese
Sour cream

Guacamole Ingredients:
Avocado
Lime
Lemon

Side Dishes: Bought from a local restaurant
Spanish Rice
Black Beans
Chips
Salsa

Process:

Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil. (until onions are translucent)
Add Taco Mix in with the onions and garlic.
Add about two tablespoons of the Soy Chorizo
Add about 1/2 can of Diced Seasoned Tomatoes
Sauté the above for about 1 min.

Then add the ground turkey and possibly more olive oil if needed.
Sauté and mix the ground turkey until it is fully cooked and “crumbled”

Taste test the meat and ff it does not taste like the taco meat you like then add more Soy Chorizo or salt.

Remove from heat and your taco meat mix is done!

Guacamole:
Cut and remove the skin and seed(s) of the Avocado(s)
Mash the avocados and squeeze the juice of one lime over the mashed Avocado ( be sure to mash well).

Taco Tortillas:
In a skillet
Heat the olive oil
Fry/heat the corn or flower tortillas until golden brown on each side.
Remove tortillas from the pan, blot off any excess oil and fill each tortilla with the desired fillings (i.e. meat, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes etc.)

Most of all, enjoy!

Possible dinners to make with "leftovers:" Enchiladas or a tomato meat sauce for pasta.

Once a friend told me he couldn’t stand a girl he went out with; even though her body was perfect...The date-deal breaker was that she burped/belched. I told him, “If you really like her couldn’t you ignore that?” He said, “I don’t really like her...”

What Kills a Crush? What Dead-ends a “Date?” What Ruins a Romance?
Of course everything should be taken on an individual basis, BUT there are usually some key things that make us ALL “run for the hills.”

Man#1
Crush Killer: Inability to hold conversation (re: stupidity), lack of manners/class
Date Deal Breaker: Inability to hold conversation about a variety of topics, lack of class/manners, cheapness (I'll pay but you can at least offer a tip)
Romance Killer: Selfishness. Nothing more, nothing less

Man#2
Crush Killer: When she is mean to others, or treats them in a demeaning way.. I know many girls who I thought were cute and interesting until I saw them interact with somebody and was a complete bitch to them. (e.g to a waiter in a restaurant, to the cashier at a cafe, boy in class asking for notes, etc.)

Date Deal Breaker: When they preach their hardcore religious beliefs, or when they talk NON STOP about sexism in the U.S. ( I recently dealt with this one). One caveat about the super feminist is that when she is telling you all this and you have a small smirk on your face while she's telling you and she DOESN'T get offended, in fact laughs about the fact that I find it amusing.. actually turns the date around 180. In fact that's a plus when she has strong beliefs AND is open to others opinions.

Ruined Romance : “Clingy-ness,” jealousy but the main thing for me is if she has a moral center that I do not agree with. It's not that I'm selfish, but we have to be on the same page about what is right and wrong, if she follows cookie cutter morals and assumes “rules is rules” or the opposite (call it anarchy, or socio-pathology) it won't last.

Man #3
Crush killer: Naturally, if the girl is a down right user of people. On the other end of the spectrum is even worse for me... If the girl constantly tries to please everyone and not upset people is a huge crush killer for me. Trying to please everyone is impossible.

Date Deal Breaker: Constantly talking about past relationships/Ex'es.

Ruined Romance: Romance is ruined by a lack of desire and effort to keep it going. Time together makes a lot of people forget to do the "nice" little things for each other. I am a firm believer relationships take a lot of work (but are well worth it). Once people get too "comfortable" the spark tends to disappear, followed by "doing nothing," but critiquing each other about everything.

Shamime:

Crush Killer: Men that USE women either for sex, homework, room and board, cars etc.

Date Deal Breaker: Preaching Marxist Theory. Criticism based on Religion (i.e. hateful words about another, because he/she is not “X” religion)...AND lastly, Not showing up breaks a date.

Romance killer: Narcissism, living with Ex girlfriends, taking WAY too much pride in their “manhood” and job-less-ness.

Here we have a Bebe Leather Motorcycle Jacket I found at the Goodwill on Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles California!

There is nothing I love more than finding a $200+ vintage, European made, leather jacket for $40 dollars!

Relocating back to LA for my Masters Graduate Degree in combination with a new job are time consuming but this weekend the photos should (hopefully) start up again.

 ^^^ The hardest thing is taking a self portrait with a Samsung Galaxy from Verizon...^^

Wine Me, Dine Me

I love cooking for my friends! The best way to socialize is over good food. 

If I like you, I will find the time to cook for you and share with you a delicious creation.

The past four months, I have not had the urge to cook. I recall telling my friend, “I don’t have  any friends around to create dinners with! My friend Maria probably gets tired of me always wanting to hangout! I must get back to a sense of normalcy!”

Well, today I cooked. Today, I imagined. Today, I cooked up a dream. I dreamed of having a job, my Masters Degree, my own place and either spending an evening at a cute guy’s place or him showing up with a bottle of wine at mine. I would then cook ONLY in my apron and we would discuss worldly issues, life and have a nice casual evening after a fulfilling day at work! Ha! What a dream....

The only way to make a dream come true is to work for it! So, today I started with some food for thought. 

For the Veggies:

Stir fry in olive oil for about 5 min and then set aside:

Asparagus

Kalamata Olives

Italian Capers

3 cloves of Garlic

3 Mushrooms

Sun Dried Tomatoes

Dry Italian Seasoning

Fresh Sage

3 teaspoons Salt

1 teaspoon sugar

For the Sauce:

I suppose you could find an Alfredo sauce and doctor it up with the following, but I would recommend looking up a basic cream sauce recipe and adding:

Half cup white wine, 1/4 cup lemon juice, and 1/4 cup vodka (cook the wine and vodka off until the cream is thick again)

Combine in a large pot the cream sauce and vegetables. Then bring to a simmer while adding the seafood (scallops and clams)

Since everything else is already “cooked,” just wait until the clams open up and the scallops are fully white. *you can steam the clams ahead of time if wanted*

Too Much To Talk About!

Life has been pretty packed the past few months. Planning my move back to Los Angeles takes time. I am happy to say that with my move to Los Angeles comes yoga certification, a masters degree and hopefully mastering a new language!

This past month I was lucky to interview Bow’s and Arrow's Boutique where they have a fabulous art gallery, restaurant and AMAZING vintage fashion.

Now what does a single girl need while apartment hunting in Los Angeles? I spent one of my evenings speeding around West Los Angeles with Three Guys and A Girl’s Sheraf! I never knew he had a motorcycle! There is nothing more invigorating than speeding through Marina Del Rey, down the 90/405 Freeway, through Century City/Beverly Hills and up Westwood Blvd to our Alma Mater UCLA! Only in Los Angeles does a girl have the option to live so freely!

My latest book read comes from Michael Christopher Mosley. He is an impeccable writer! I respect and value his ability to depict what so many literary works gloss over. He spells out “real,” he highlights perseverance and he enlightens the hearts of many. “One Drop too White” is a “must read.”

Lusting for Love

Agape is a deep unconditional love that I have for everyone....Many take it the “wrong way” at first, but eventually realize I am pretty selfless and “love” everyone and not to be “afraid” of my gestures. 

Philia is a friendship type of love...but I combine Agape and Philia...

Eros is a blinding passionate love that I see with select friends... They fall in love fast and only see “Agape and Philia” in a ego boosting "erotic" sense...making any type of “relationship” disastrous and confusing if everyone is not on the same “page”

After thinking deeply about what is “love,” I decided to ask my closet!

Happy Memorial Day!

This outfit is my Great Uncle’s Navy outfit that he gave to my grandmother! It is so warm and comfortable. I love wearing it with a pair of leggings and use it as a conversation piece to discuss what I know of my Uncle's experiences in World War II! 

My family has their fair share of Military Men... 

My Grandfather: Merchant Marine

My Great Uncle: WWII Navy Officer and flight instructor (How? He “passed” for white in 1942. This was the only way a black man could be anything other than a cook at that time.)

My Great Grandpa: WWI US Army (Also "passed" for white)

My Dad: Almost joined the Air Force, but decided to continue with undergrad and then get his Masters degree.

"A Nice 10 Points" Three Guys and a Girl Advice

1) What is the 10 point scale? How does this system work? Do you think about it with every woman?

2) Do “nice” guys always finish last? What about “nice” girls?

1). The 10 point scale is great. It's the result of an in depth and complex evaluation process. There are many contributing factors which make up a "beauty". Such complex factors include tits and ass; sometimes a woman's face is a factor.....but only sometimes. 

Such as education, in which the 10 point grade scale is a way of allocating a single value to an overwhelming series of contributing factors. Such factors make up a student's ability to meet criteria for participation, homework, exams etc. And such factors can be batched into categories like satisfactory, un-satisfactory etc. This system could be adopted by men in their evaluation of women, but that would yet again be overwhelming for a male. For men, the best system is the pass / no-pass or a numerical value. 

Without the numerical value, or the pass / no-pass grading scale, the contributing factors are overwhelming in number. For most its face, tits and ass. For others its hair, tits and ass....and others legs, tits and ass....and if the guy is particularly sophisticated, there are other more complex factors like a female's eyes, lips, smile, skin, tits and ass. So again, its very complicated. 

2.) nice guys don't always finish last anymore. Because some nice guys have money....nuff said

What is the 10 point scale? How does this system work? Do you think about it with every woman?

The ten point scale is a system anyone can use to judge another person. It is often claimed to be a rather shallow method. For myself (and for a lot of other people I know) this system works by adding up various factors about an individual including looks, and personality. I don’t think about it for every woman I run into on the street, I use it mostly to compare my judgments with my guy friends. I see the reasons they gave a girl a certain number and often times our reasoning will differ but the numbers stay relatively the same. I really don’t think it works as an accurate way to assess someone, it’s just a fun way to judge people. I can’t even begin to imagine what number people would give me, I think it would be subjective and I would have quite the range. 

2) Do “nice” guys always finish last? What about “nice” girls?

When you say, “nice guy” you make me picture someone who gets walked all over and lets it happen. Those kinds of people do finish last. Someone unable to assert themselves will never be able to get what they want unless someone takes the first steps for them. There are plenty of “nice guys” out there, but is that what a girl is really looking for? I just read an article that said for most women a “happy guy” ranks low on sexual attractiveness.

This implies that “niceness” is not necessarily what a girl is looking for. As for “nice girls” they don’t have to finish last. I think an assertive girl could be nice at the same time and be able to make the most out of life.

I was never a big fan of the “10 point scale” or the whole “out of your league” genre to begin with. For one, the 10 point scale is solely based on looks and omits other crucial factors that make a woman desirable, factors like say... SANITY? Secondly, the 10 point scale has major reliability and validity flaws because we (guys) assume an average of 7 and not 5. This is because it takes a real heartless fella to give someone a score below 5. If I were to use this scale I would say use a 5-10 scale, that way 7 is the real “average” and you don't seem like a terrible guy giving someone a 6, when in actuality it is a 2/3. 

But I put this list aside because it labels things in concrete terms, which is where you get the “out of league” fallacy. Sticking to this belief limits not only your available “birds in the nest,” but it also puts a negative judgment on yourself if you tell yourself that someone is “out of your league...” If a guy that is say a “6” sees a girl who is a “9”, and immediately assumes that he “has no chance” then he has effectively eliminated that chance himself by skipping on the opportunity. If he can't man up to factor in his other positive qualities and realize that no one is “out of his league”, that it's all in fact just perception, then it's his own fault, and he shouldn't cop out with the “out of league” excuse. If he did approach her and she outwardly rejected him, that’s a direct reflection on her character. No one wants to be with a bitch, despite what all the pop psychology books say...Regression to the mean.

2) Do “nice” guys always finish last? What about “nice” girls?

This one is a little more tricky. You have to really define what a “nice” guy is. It's a common misconception that “nice guy” is analogous to “insecure shy guy”. This may be true in many aspects, but it is not a two way street. You can tattoo yourself up, get some piercings and think you are a tough guy. You can even talk smack to others, and truth is that most probably wont do anything major about it.. which will only validate 'your' perception of yourself as a “bad ass”. You may even attract a certain genre of women who like your image, but at the end of the day that’s all it is.. an image. If you want to be the guy who finishes first, you don’t need any fancy gimmicks or hat tricks, you just have to be the guy that can let things go. If you have a level of security in yourself to the point where you know what you want and you are just as easily willing to walk away from it, some magical, evolutionary, psychological rubiks cube gets solved. Then the game isn't about finishing first or last, in fact, there is no game. Your girlfriend leaves you: smile.. “good luck finding someone like me”. Catch your wife in the room with another man? Laugh.. “don't stop on my watch”. Maybe those are extreme, but chances are they wont even happen if you've adopted this mind set from the beginning, because then they would really feel like they are risking something big. I like to compare it to playing the video game “Grand Theft Auto”; you can attempt do all the tedious missions, complete the timed races and frustrate yourself over and over..or you can just say “screw it” and start shooting cops and flying helicopters. It's a lot more fun when you play by your own rules.

Girl:

What is the 10 point scale? How does this system work? Do you think about it with every woman or man?

“That girl is a dime!” I remember hearing this when I had my first celebrity crush and his fan club was, “Team Dime.” I remember wanting to be a “perfect 10,” but I just thought that meant pants size.

The 10 point scale is horrible. I hate it, yet shallowly embrace it as “fact” of the male and female psyche. For women I think the 10 point scale is different when we apply it to men. As a woman, I give most guys a 8,9, 10 in my book initially. Then once I get to know them, the scale becomes extremely "fluid" depending on the conversation/actions. You can be a 10 "looks," however, women take more than that into consideration (if they are not desperate). Women will think about a man's "looks," because if she accidentally gets pregnant? Think about the child! Women will think about transportation (depending on the city), because how are you supposed to make it to the hospital if you are pregnant? Women will think about education/“job,” because if she is pregnant how is he gonna step up? No, I am kidding none of my accidental pregnant comments matter, because once pregnant you are no longer a 10...with the above aside most women are just like men.  Until men and women have experienced enough of the “good lookers” and are ready for something “of substance” like a conversation, decent looks and good food...we will all be bound by the “10 point scale”. Freedom from the 10 point scale doesn’t usually occur until 30-35 for men and 28-32 for women....

“Nice” is a relative term. People say I am "nice," but then I speak my mind...and I’m still single but I don’t exactly call that finishing “last.” I just call myself “lucky”  

I’ve had guys claim they are "nice," but their actions say otherwise....but like I always say, “Does a racist ever say ‘Hi, my name is Billy and I am a self proclaimed racist'”? No, they usually just act like a racist and think everything is fine. In my book nice guys will finish last, either by getting trapped in bad situations or by standing aside while their sexy friend picks up a chick at the bar...

If guys play the “bad boy,” they will attract “bad girls” and maybe even a bad STD...so buyers beware.

So do nice people finish last? And are you a perfect 10?

"Forever Best Friends?" Three Guys and a Girl Advice

Three Guys and a Girl

Blogger Alexandra inspired this question from her comment on Man Moment #2:

What do I do with so many attractive man friends that don’t seem to want to be more? Why do I have so many “forever best friends?”

Man#1
I think that its really easy to fall for someone for the wrong reasons.  This situation happens to guys too, not just girls. I also think that  right now we are at that age where our friendships are becoming more  valuable and it's becoming more difficult to meet people to form a  strong friendship with. That said I think a girl should enter into  a situation like this with realistic expectations: 1) Are you willing to  risk your friendship for a chance at love? Most blinded by love would  say, "yes" but a look into your "love's" past relationships...First, are you his type? If you aren't the  type of girl he would usually date you might want to reconsider. Also consider if  chemistry, personality, and looks are important to him. Secondly, what is his track record in relationships, are they short  lived? Does he have good relations with his ex's? The prospect of losing  someone forever so you can be in a brief relationship may not be worth  it.

In my experience when I have fallen for a friend I can often  become jaded by what I want to see. I forget the flaws of the person and  only afterwords when I "fall out" of love do I realize how poorly a match  we were. If you think that you can transcend all these  barriers I would urge you to give love a chance, but please be realistic  about the situation, it's too easy to be blinded by a crush.

What do you do with all those attractive men? Start an escort service..? If you can't date 'em, might as well make some money off of them!
All jokes aside... If you're gravitating towards all these attractive males and making them your friends in hopes that a romance will ensue, that's a problem. Make friends to be friendly. If you want romance pursue it from the get-go. 
Yes, many great, long-lasting romantic relationships spawn from good friendships--but those are not as common as you'd think. They usually grow organically after a long time between two REALLY close friends. That's because by then both parties are already sure that a relationship can and will work. It can't be forced; especially if the two people aren't already very close--at least one person will be hesitant to put a decent friendship on the line for what could be a terrible relationship.
So the next time you meet an attractive guy... cut to the chase. A man is a lot more likely to risk getting into a relationship with someone he doesn't know too well. The best gambles are the ones with the lowest stakes and the highest payouts.


Man#3
As men, society teaches us that we have to take the first step and initiate anything romantic. Masculine = Aggressive. However, not all guys are like that. I don't know about other fellas out there, but I hate taking the first step. My best advice would be to bring up the possibility of a relationship in a nonchalant way, and simply communicate your feelings (if there are any). If the guy is already a good friend, what do you have to lose?

Once there is a “title” to anything, it usually remains that way. You want to form a friendship, but you need to set a precedent for anything you may have in mind. Once you form a friendship, however, chances are people won't want to risk the friendship. He or she have already formulated his or her thoughts about you. Chemistry should spark any relationship and it should be there early on... So if he doesn't make a move first, I'd suggest throw your intentions out there and see if he feels the same way ASAP.

Just put yourself out there. You will never know until you ask the question, “Do you see me more as a friend?” OR you can just start hanging around ugly guys...

Taking the risk to see how another person feels romantically takes a lot of courage. There are endless possibilities that you can take with your attractive friends. However, if it's a relationship your looking for, you should consider what it is you actually want. Compatibility with the person must be a mutual interest. Relationships are a two way street, and the best ones are when two people are invested and willing to take the chance. "Forever best friends" aren't necessarily a bad thing. If they're great friends then they may be able to give subjective advice on what works for future suitors.

I guess the real question is,  “Do you want to keep a friend and live with the regret of never trying for more with them? Or, take the risk of potentially loosing a friend at the chance of a relationship can turn into something more?” You have to make the judgment call, “Is worth the risk of potentially loosing a friend.” Go with your gut feeling ask your self, “Does this feel like the feelings are mutual? Is there that spark or that awkward but thrilling tension?” I always go in with: The hope that it will go as I want it to. With the knowledge that if it does not go as I want, I can move on....Having the satisfaction that I tried to make what I want happen eases my conscious.

Girl:
This is a hard question. I decided a LONGGG time ago (before starting college, when I was a chubby 220 lbs girl) that I would lose weight and acquire as many attractive male friends as possible....because none of them seemed to want me as a girlfriend, I decided I would  be  just that, FRIENDS forever.... Kinda like, “You didn’t want me then, so you don’t get me now.” It never crossed my mind that they could have been boyfriend material, until about my Junior year of college and by that time I was completely focused on school.

I would say, keep them as friends. Presently, I prefer having a lifetime of great supportive male friends that I can talk to...rather than fleeting makeout sessions resulting in frizzy hair, confusion, attachment and snoring.....ACTUALLY, I changed my mind....Will you ALL marry me like, NOW? LOL Kidding!

It depends on my mood. If I'm feeling fat...black it is...if I'm feeling good... I wear something a bit more form fitting. lol

I love Victoria Beckham

~What is your favorite color to wear?
Well, I don't think its really a color but I love BLACK!! lol

~What is your go-to outfit?
Any color dress with a black blazer.

~If you had to choose one pair to be stranded on an Island with: Skinny Jeans,Leggings, Boot cut or Bell bottom, what would it be?

~Leggings. I don't think they really look the best on me but I know I could climb, swim, run and jump in them so they would be the logical choice.

~I don't dress up for men...I dress up for me. I think that 1st impressions can be false so I think that I would just do "me" and wear a nice pair of black slacks with a cute blouse and some heels.

Victorious Vukasin: Man Moment #2!

When I started College, (University) I was “plain” and no man seemed to pay attention to me. Most guys gushed over my friends...So, I swore early on that I would befriend as many sexy guys as possible, because for some reason a “Boyfriend” never seemed to happen!

When I came home from college, I realized one more good looking guy was my, “Cousin” Vukasin (also known as, Vuki)! He was the perfect addition to my portfolio and his style was a perfect blend of preppy/casual/European! Naturally, we had a photo session and his extremely talented photographer father gave me some professional pointers!

“Vuki” is my childhood friend! We practically grew up together, I consider him “family.” His mom and my mom were (and are) beautiful friends. He is also great with advice and will be featured in the “soon-to-be” launched advice section of this blog! To get a taste of how candid/opinionated I am about men, life and love you can start by checking out my other blog that has been up and running since last August...It is getting enough positive “buzz” now... So I hope you will enjoy and it will continue to make people think, reflect and talk!

Marina Del Rey is one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. My mom lived  there when she was in her 20's and I have always wanted to live in the  artist area five minutes north (Venice Beach or Santa Monica).

Here I am wearing a custom made dress, but the pattern is modeled after a  Lucky Brand "button zipper" cotton dress from Buffalo Exchange. The  fabric I found in high school at my local fabric store. It was on sale  and I couldn't resist the deep blue tie-die.

The circle scarf is from my friend Dylana and it matches perfectly!

Fishing for Fashion

I am wearing a Fisherman’s hat that I picked up in Greece years ago...AND as I was cleaning out my dad’s closet I found his old plaid wool shirt (from his college days in Illinois!)

I love the color and how free and comfortable I feel in this outfit. The only catch is, it is a little itchy (be sure with itchy wool to wear a “liner”) and extremely WARM!

PS this is my Lake that I live on and we are allowed to fish (Catch and release only)... I am, therefore, not trespassing!

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I have been away for a bit! My router broke, but now I am back in business! I haven't forgotten about cross blogging with interested fellow fashion bloggers! Expect an email from me soon ya'll!

Today’s feature is “Man Moment #1!” I have many attractive male friends with impeccable style, so I thought I would feature some of my photography skills while highlighting their amazing looks!

Most of the time men do not place too much importance on the brand names they are wearing so...He is in one of my favorite outfits (for a man to wear): A button down shirt and a nice pair of jeans.  Usually, I prefer men in white button down shirts, but he looks far too amazing in black.

Next up, I will feature the outfit I wore while photographing the amazingly sexy Man Moment #1.

Prints! 

I found this dress at Buffalo Exchange in Westwood, Los Angeles.

This dress takes a lot of courage to wear! One of my friends borrowed this dress before I wore it (as a trial run) Complements from the entire UCLA campus bombarded her in this dress.

In Sacramento traffic stopped or slowed down as I took these photographs. Transients even stopped to watch and asked if I needed or wanted any “homeless chic” in the background? I kindly replied, “No thank you.” This area was full of individuals from every walk of life, all were respectful and kind!

I cant wait to wear this dress again in Southern California!

I love nature... and as a quiet, only child nature was my best friend.

I was and am fortunate enough to live on a lake where we have ducks, geese, gophers and always a dog.

My family encouraged my creativity, because many times they put their talents aside to make an honest living, or support family members. I am blessed that they provide me with the support, option and financial security to explore my passions while I am young.

As a child you couldn’t get me away from the window or keep me inside. My father, when he had free time, would take me pony riding at a park downtown, and I convinced myself we had enough room in our backyard for one of my very own....

I still don’t have a pony, but this blue silk dress satisfies my soul.

This Dress is inspired by Missoni! While shopping with Dylana, she insisted I try this dress on. I loved it from the very first moment.

These colors make me want to return to Italy. My favorite place was Capri.

What are you wearing right now? 

Right now, I am wearing a great pair of skinny jeans, my favorite button-up blouse, and a bunch of rings.

When you got up in the morning how did you decide? 

Because I am constantly on the go, I make sure that I am dressed comfortably. I usually throw together a casual look and try not to over think an outfit. I love the “effortless look.”

Growing up what were your fashion inspirations? 

As a teen, I was very interested in Teen Vogue. The beautiful editorials and fashion tips definitely got me inspired to play around with clothing and create my own unique style.

What is your favorite color to wear? 

I really love jade, or forest green.

Is there any color that you believe looks good on almost ANY skin tone? 

I definitely think a dark plum color works great on any skin tone. A dark plum lip especially! It always looks pretty and fresh.

If you had to choose one pair to be stranded on an Island with: Skinny Jeans, Leggings, Boot cut or Bell bottom, wide leg?

I would have to go with skinny jeans, because I feel they are flattering on just about anyone. They are also just super classic and comfortable.

What is your “go-to” outfit? As in the outfit that you KNOW you will look and feel good in no matter what? 

My "go to" outfit would be a vintage button-up blouse, dark washed skinny jeans and a broken in pair of flat boots along with a pair of shades.

What article of clothing do you think everyone should at least try on ONCE...but not necessarily buy?

 I think everyone should try on a floppy hat. They always pull together a simple look and are perfect for sun protection!

Culturally, what inspires you? 

I have been very lucky to travel quite a lot (at such a young age). Everywhere I go, I tend to take bits and pieces of surrounding cultures and incorporate them into my wardrobe; whether it be a ring I stumble upon in Malaysia or a scarf I picked up on the streets of Bali...Sometimes I look down at my outfit and realize every piece is from a different corner of the world, all brought together in a simple look. I love that!

What is your ethnic background and do you draw fashion inspiration from that? 

Being both Asian and Hispanic, I am very much inspired by ethnic prints and bold colors. I love the bright reds that come out during Chinese New Year and I love the warm, neutral shades of Spanish buildings.  Throughout the year, I tend to bring both out in the way I dress.

Casual Hair and Outfit Day

I thought I would share a natural way to dye your hair a red-ish tint.

For my hair it simply gave my tips a red glow.

Mix beet juice, avocado and melted coconut oil in a blender with 1/4 cup vinegar. 

Apply to damp hair IN THE SHOWER!  (beet juice stains so be careful)

Then clip hair up and cover with a shower cap.

Use a towel that you don’t mind staining with beet juice and sit under a hooded dryer or just wait 30 min. 

Then rinse out and apply a SMALL amount of conditioner to the ends! Style as usual!

Sometimes you want casual. Sometimes you NEED casual.

I am wearing, a Wilson’s leather skirt, purple silk chiffon blouse (vintage) and cute shiny pumps!

When you got up in the morning how do you decide what to wear?
Depends on where I am going... If I am going to work, I wear “classy yet comfortable;” but when I go to school normally I wear jeans (depending on the weather I can wear a shirt with a cute cover up jacket!)

This morning I selected a sporty athletic “look” and some comfy capris, because I knew we would be cooking up a storm (in the kitchen) and later I would change my clothing!

Growing up what were your fashion inspirations?
My mom! When it came to her fashion she had a “business chic” that I still to this day emulate and find inspiring! Where would I be without my mom’s great fashion sense! I can recycle so many of her “looks”! For instance, her boots! She LOVED them when she was younger and I LOVE them now!

What is your favorite color to wear?
I do like purple...But anything vibrant really!

Is there any color that you believe looks good on almost ANY skin tone?
I would say, probably black. It is a safe color and it thins you out!

Nike stretch pants with a Nike shirt and a Nike running jacket...with my Nike tennis shoes! Gotta represent my love for Nike!

Culturally, what inspires you?
What is your ethnic background and do you draw fashion inspiration from that?

What are you wearing right now?
To be totally honest, I am in sweats right now! Just woke up! haha. But usually I would be wearing skinny jeans, a slouchy knitted sweater, a leather belt, ankle boots, and a great colorful blazer thrown on top! And maybe a hat! hehe

When you got up in the morning how did you decide?
Usually the night before I think about one piece that I really want to wear. For example, it might be a printed maxi skirt. Then in the morning I usually just work around that one piece and throw something together that I like. I am most inspired by interesting color combination's, and that is how I pick and choose what I want to wear to complete the look.

Growing up what were your fashion inspirations?
Growing up I was always so inspired my my mom. She had the most amazing sense of style and always wore beautiful dresses with fitted waists and full bottoms. I really wished she kept her closet because I would definitely loved to have some pieces altered for myself to wear today. Because of my mom, I was introduced to fashion and beautiful clothing, so I really loved reading fashion magazines like Vogue, ELLE, Teen Magazine, Seventeen. Fashion as a whole and all the runway coverage in the magazines really shaped my perspective on fashion and I quickly fell in love with it even more.

What is your favorite color to wear?

This is hard to say because I love certain colors more at different times depending on my mood. But I can always rely on a soft cream or nude shade to work on my because I think it looks against my light skin and dark hair. If I am on the go, but have no idea what to wear, any neutral color will be the first thing I reach for. Neutral colors are timeless.

Is there any color that you believe looks good on almost ANY skin tone?
I really think that the colors maroon or rusty orange look good on almost all skin tones. I don't know why. Maybe it is because I just like how deep, warm and unexpected these colors are. And they already have tones of what is already in our skin (like browns, reds, beige, yellow), just mixed up together, so I could see nearly everyone wearing a little bit of these colors!

If you had to choose one pair to be stranded on an Island: Skinny Jeans, Leggings, Boot cut or Bell bottom, wide leg...what would it be?
I would have to say leggings because they are so comfortable. They may not be as fashionable as skinny jeans, but hey, I'm stranded and nobody's looking at me!

Ok so, what if there was an attractive single man on this island with you? (you now can choose "other" but do tell me what that "other" article of clothing is!)
Well, out of the jeans I would pick skinny jeans because I think they look best on me! If I have a choice of any outfit, I would wear a pretty little sheer mini dress with a lace slip underneath (simple yet sexy, is best with men)

What is your “go-to” outfit? As in the outfit that you KNOW you will look and feel good in no matter what?
My go-to outfit is definitely ankle boots, skinny jeans, my leather motorcycle jacket, and a silky, slightly oversized and sheer, button-front blouse.

What article of clothing do you think everyone should at least try on ONCE . . . but not necessarily buy?
I think everyone should at least try on some sort of hat! I never really wore hats a few months ago, but then I came across a great vintage one at a thrift store and it has been love ever since. I never expected to like the look of a wider brim hat on me, but I actually did. Now I have a classic little 20's-ish cloche hat that I loooove. And I am looking for a wider brimmed floppy hat that's more bohemian. Nobody should be afraid of hats. There is a perfect one out there for each of us. You just have to try one on to find out. Hats totally complete an outfit!

Culturally, what inspires you?
The whole world inspires me. I love to travel and get to know a certain country by paying attention to the people who live there, the clothes they wear, the food they eat, the way they interact with each other. It is really important when traveling to be able to open yourself up to different cultures and to put all your senses into overdrive. It's an exciting experience to sort of be a part of something foreign and new and to take little bits and pieces into your own life, whether it be a new perspective, a new favorite color or food, or a new appreciation for something you've never noticed before. One of the places that I was really inspired by recently was Melaka, an ancient city in the country of Malaysia. It was so thriving and pulsating with life, colors, music, and food. It inspired me to sit back and live in the moment.

What is your ethnic background and do you draw fashion inspiration from that?
My mother is Chinese and originally from Singapore, but was raised in Malaysia. My father is born and raised in Los Angeles, and is of Mexican and Spanish decent. I am interesting mix and people usually have a hard time pinpointing what my ethnicity is. I definitely draw inspiration from my ethnic background. I am naturally curious about the world and love to explore and discover new things about myself. Being able to travel to visit all my family in Malaysia is exciting and always a fresh experience. Being able to connect with where I come from in a hands on sort of way makes me open-minded and confident, and this definitely reflects in the way I dress myself.

We met during my Junior year at UCLA through common friends!

Dylana was an English major and I, Cultural Studies. At the time I was terribly shy and working on “being social.” It was then that Dylana mentioned my, “style.”  I never thought about my “style” beyond comfort. My wardrobe consisted of J. Crew chinos, favorite tees and I had a few pairs of jeans and some sweatshirts. Dylana encouraged me to, “buy some dresses for the spring quarter!”  and she gave me my first pair of Skinny Jeans, a belted “moo moo” floral dress and an eco friendly purse. My mother also supported this venture as, she too has impeccable fashion sense but could never get me to wear anything (because I was too shy).

So Dylana and I went shopping!! She also mentioned her sister Natalie would be joining us...and from this day forth we have been fun fashionable friends!!!

They have encouraged me to start blogging and FINALLY I have!
